Pillsbury House Theatre seeks artists from our surrounding neighborhoods (Central, Powderhorn, Bancroft & Bryant) to participate in Art in Commons, an exciting new residency program based in our building. Art in Commons will provide individual artists with access to a free studio space in our lobby for up to six weeks.

Art in Commons offers artists small-scale opportunities to:

  • Embed themselves in our community center as resident artists for up to 6 weeks.

  • Expose the 10,000 people that enter PHT each year to the value of their work.

  • Explore how PHT can support their art through access to a free temporary studio.

  • Exhibit and/or market their art to neighborhood residents.

  • Encourage public participation in reciprocal art activities.

About the studio:

  • The studio will be a 100-square-foot, ADA accessible enclosure located in the PHT lobby.

  • The studio will be a semi-private work space with walls, a street facing window, and a door.

  • Artists can choose the level of interaction with people in our lobby during their residency.

  • The studio will have a work table and interior walls for works in progress, as well as access to power and a nearby water supply.

  • The exterior walls can be used to exhibit artwork during each artist residency.

We are looking to have artists of different disciplines activate the studio space year round, starting in May 2019.
